The parking experience is the first impression drivers get of your site. As a property or facility manager, it’s your job to make sure that experience is seamless. This begins with making it easy for visitors to navigate your parking facility, and get where they need to be quickly and without hassle.

When strategizing easy navigation and wayfinding through your parking facility, you and your parking operator need to consider the following logistics:

Signage and Wayfinding Expertise

There’s nothing worse than being in a parking garage and not being able to find the route to the exit, or your way to the elevator. Installing visible signage in appropriate locations is critical for easy navigation and seamless traffic flow throughout your parking facility. It’s the job of your parking management service provider to make smart recommendations that make your facility easy to navigate.

Parking Guidance System

A parking guidance system is a sensor-based system (e.g., camera) that displays real-time parking stall occupancy to drivers using colour-coded lights (e.g., a red light signifies that the parking space is occupied and green signifies that the parking space is available).

A parking guidance system reduces the amount of time drivers spend searching for an available parking space by 37%, significantly alleviating driver frustration. But that’s not all. A camera-based parking guidance system can also be integrated with a find-my-car-via-licence-plate kiosk, app or pay station, which can be available for your patrons to utilize upon returning to your parking facility after their travels or a busy day.

Digital Marketing

Today, nearly 92% of drivers start their search for parking online. They’re looking for details on what to expect when they arrive at your parking facility, and also to verify if your facility has an entrance that is close to or connected in some way to their destination. Not only is it important to make sure your parking facility information is available online; it’s crucial to upload details, such as a comprehensive map of your parking facility and images of the parking lot entry and exit, to the web so that your visitors can easily find their way to and from your parking lot.

These are a few main things to consider when strategizing wayfinding solutions for your parking facility.
