Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a form of wireless communication that utilizes radio waves to read and capture information stored on an object for automatic identification purposes. In the parking industry, RFID readers are commonly integrated with gated parking systems to control access of regular visitors who have parking permits, tags, or transponders. This is known as an RFID parking control solution.

When exploring RFID parking control solutions, you may come across the term short-range reader. As the name suggests, a short-range RFID reader operates over a short distance, typically a few centimetres up to a couple of feet. These readers are installed at the parking lot entry and exit points, requiring drivers to lower their window and hold their parking permits or tags close to the RFID reader to gain access.

Below are the benefits of installing a short-range RFID parking control solution:

  • Economical access control: Short-range systems are typically less costly to purchase and maintain. Access cards offer a cost-effective alternative to long-range transponders, with easy reprogramming and reduced operational costs.

  • Fast entry and exit: A short-range RFID reader enables quick and convenient entry and exit for regular visitors at your facility, requiring minimal interaction with the parking equipment. This improves traffic flow, reduces congestion, and streamlines access.

  • Enhanced security: Integrating RFID technology into your parking system ensures that only authorized vehicles have access to the facility. With real-time data and enhanced monitoring capabilities, RFID technology offers greater access control, resulting in improved security and safety.

  • One solution, many uses: Using a single credential for multiple access points ensures seamless and secure movement throughout the property. Many building access cards or employee ID badges can also be used for  parking access, eliminating the need for multiple credentials.

Integrating short-range RFID readers at your parking facility provides a cost-effective, secure, and efficient access control solution, enabling authorized vehicles enter and exit seamlessly.
