Gone are the days of rummaging through your pockets for change at the mercy of a single-space parking meter. In the past 30 years, parking meters have advanced to keep up with the speed of society. Automated and multi-space parking meters have become the norm, making single-space parking meters a nostalgic sight.

One of the many ways parking meters have advanced is in the forms of payment they accept. In addition to coin, today’s basic standards for parking meters are to accept credit card and mobile parking payment via an app.

Pay-by-Plate parking meters take payment one step further, with their ability to be enhanced to accept validated parking rates with a simple input of a licence plate or specific pin code on the keypad.

Depending on the business goals your parking meter operation is expected to meet, it’s recommended that your parking technology accepts today’s basic payment standards: coin, credit card, and mobile payment.
